Forget-Me-Not; Sarah Janks 2014 Wedding Dress Collection

Explore Sarah Janks’ bridal fashion

Sarah Janks

The Sarah Janks brand started as an idea in London while Sarah was working as a pattern maker for esteemed fashion houses including Jenny Packham, Jonathon Saunders, Roland Mouret (famous for his flattering cuts) and Hamish Morrow.

Looking to start pushing the boundaries and explore fashion in her own way, the Sarah Janks Bridal Collection was born.

Inspired by a love of clothes and wanting to make women look beautiful, Sarah applied her technical skills to designs which combine precision fit, cut and creativity to give classic shapes a modern slant.

Here she tells how she has carved out her signature style, while still staying true to her traditional couture techniques.

What inspired you to become a bridal designer?
Having come from a more fashion focused career, I saw a gap in the market for what I loved and was sure there would be other women who would appreciate my aesthetic. Bridal is an intimate, slow moving industry, which has given me the opportunity to work with the best fabrics and designs.

Tell us about your latest bridal collection
My latest collection ‘Keepsakes’ is inspired by tracing the thread down the generations, from grandmother to mother, to daughter. New fabrics are mixed with Italian lace, including designs marking a nod to the ‘50s trend, but with with key embellishments remaining true to the Sarah Janks signature style. I designed this collection with brides in mind, who request to personalize their look and have options for both the ceremony and reception.

What are your inspirations?
Anything and everything. Brides and women in my life. Strong, flawed and beautiful every one of them.

Can brides have a bespoke gown created by you if they wish?
Of course, however we only offer bespoke design as a service to our Australian brides and by special arrangement in Europe and the USA.

Describe the Sarah Janks bride
Modern, strong, confident, elegant and fashion forward.

What do you believe is the ultimate bridal accessory?
Comfortable shoes. Don’t scrimp on the shoes!

Take us through your tips for finding ‘the perfect dress’
Keep an open mind. Choose what you like and not what your mum or friends like. Most importantly, trust your judgement. Shop within your budget, you don’t want to fall in love with a dress you can’t afford. And don’t forget to have fun! Champagne lunches with the girls alongside shoe and underwear shopping to punctuate the dress appointments make for a couple of great girlie days out.

Do you offer any bridal accessories?
We have a small but beautiful collection of shrugs, silk veils and accessories to complement our mainline collection.

Any exciting plans for the future of Sarah Janks?
Yes, we have a few things on the boil so watch this space!

What would be your number one piece of advice for brides?
Underwear, underwear, underwear! When you go shopping, wear a strapless well fitting bra with seamless underwear. When you shop for your bridal under garments, spoil yourself. Good lingerie will make all the difference to the fit of your wedding dress on the day.
